Staying in control in busy times

Busy times it are. It is the end of March and so the taxes are almost due. Somehow this little project always ends up to be done by the last week of March, shortly before the official deadline. Tonight I first did the taxes for my mother, always a good practice before going into my own. However that’s not all what’s causing busy times at the moment.

At home another project is requiring a lot of attention as we are in the middle of a complete redo of our kitchen and our basement. The workmen started this morning tearing down the old kitchen and breaking away old wall tiles. For us it meant that the past weekend was, except for a great evening out on Saturday to the local Jazz festival, almost completely in the light of emptying the kitchen and the basement. And such a project is not just simply emptying the kitchen into boxes, it is also about deciding where to put what. After all during the redo the family continues to run the normal live, albeit a bit adjusted to the circumstances. So equipment like a refrigerator and a washing machine are equipment that needs continuity in operation in a family like ours, with four children. Hence our living room is now somewhat turned into an all round room, food is being prepared here, the kitchen equipment is operating here and it still somewhat functions as our living room.

Still in these demanding circumstances I feel everything is very much under control. Driving back tonight after doing my mother’s taxes I was pondering a bit on that and asked myself what was different compared to other busy times I experienced before. Quickly I came to the conclusion that it must be due to the use of eProductivity. Before starting with eProductivity a couple of weeks ago I was already into GTD for a couple of years. However only now I realize that the other systems I used never really made it to become my trusted systems. In the past I still was using some side systems to stay in control and often fall off the bandwagon with respect to the weekly review. With eProductivity however it is different. Everything is in the system and doing a weekly review is an easy task, basically I live in the system and I trust it completely. Hence I stay in control, even in these busy times.
